Why Gender Identity Ideology has Created an Education Scandal

MSP Tess White hosted ScotPAG’s first Round Table event in the Scottish Parliament 5th March 2026. In addition to the Panel of professional speakers and ScotPAG members, MSPs, parents and professionals from education, health and social work were in attendance. The panel speakers comprised:

Carolyn Brown, Retired Depute Principal
Educational Psychologist, ScotPAG Convenor
Dr Anne Woodhouse, Consultant Clinical Psychologist
Maggie Mellon, Senior Social Worker
Dr Brigid Daniel, Professor Emerita, Queen Margaret University

The meeting lasted one hour which could only ever scrape the surface regarding what has and continues to happen in education. But it was an excellent opportunity for ScotPAG and interested parties to discuss and raise concerns with MSPs about the parlous situation that the Scottish Government and education leaders have allowed to happen with regard to the embedded nature of gender identity ideology in Scottish schools.
ScotPAG has written previously about the potential dangers and harms caused by the ‘product placement’ of gender ideological terminology in education.
All attending MSPs voiced significant concerns regarding the points raised by the highly experienced and respected professionals. Both Rachael Hamilton MSP and Sharon Dowey MSP registered their commitment to highlighting ScotPAG’s concerns in the new parliamentary session. Rachael Hamilton stated that having listened to the ScotPAG speakers, she had several concerns, particularly with regard to the erosion of boundaries for children that this ideology has caused and for general safeguarding of children.

Concern was also raised during the meeting about the numerous attempts made by ScotPAG and other concerned parties including parents, to engage with the Scottish Government which had been rebuffed.
