A Tale of Jenny Gilruth MSP and the Un-Learning Directorate!

On the 20th February 2026, ScotPAG members met with two civil servants from the Learning Directorate. This meeting was held at the behest of Jenny Gilruth to whom ScotPAG had written previously:

Jenny Gilruth did not reply to our letter. In January 2026, Douglas Ross MSP intervened asking why she had ignored our letter and our previous communications. The online meeting with two civil servants from the Learning Directorate was the outcome of our request to meet with Ms Gilruth.

After the meeting, ScotPAG sent a summary of the issues and concerns raised by members to Jenny Gilruth’s civil servants:

One month later, we received a reply. The reply is a textbook example

of ideological capture wrapped in bureaucratic waffle. It fails at any level, to engage with our serious concerns about the harms caused by gender ideology, gender affirmation and self-ID for children. It is an excellent example of gaslighting.

We had hoped for an intelligent and informed dialogue with education representatives who understood about research design and the parameters required for effective safeguarding. We were sadly disappointed.

As regular ScotPAG followers will be aware, we have repeatedly written about the dangers of gender identity ideology to children, families, school staff and the entire education system itself. A key aspect of our concern is that the concept of gender identity is based on a lie and for a lie to persist, everyone needs to play along with the lie and reinforce the lie. This is dangerous authoritarian territory.

The reply from Scottish Government is disingenuous and disheartening. They say they are committed to supporting LGBTQI+ pupils safely. As always the forced teaming of the acronym makes no sense, how on earth does Q+ have any place in schools? And the pathway they are starting these “trans identifying” kids on has no evidence base of safety behind it, quite the opposite. I despair of what’s going on in Scottish politics and education, but thank you all for what you are doing.
