"From classrooms to operating theatres" A ScotPAG Exclusive! 31 August 2025

Esteemed surgeon, Dr. Chrysostom MS (Gen Surg), FRCSEd. writes directly to teenagers, young adults, and their parents!

Heartfelt letter from Dr Chrysostom
Heartfelt letter from Dr Chrysostom

In June this year, ScotPAG published an interview with Dr. Joseph Chrysostom and some of his letters to various medical bodies and politicians. Now Dr Chrysostom has written directly to parents and carers, and to teenagers and young adults.

ScotPAG professionals think that families will welcome both letters. We believe that Dr Chrysostom’s letter to parents, although hard hitting, provides the TRUTH about so-called ‘affirming care’ and all the potential harms that go with it. He is clear that gender ideology and its proponents are the promoters of deception and despair. Their agenda has nothing to do with the best interests of the teenager or young adult and their families.

ScotPAG professionals think that Dr Chrysostom’s letter to young adults is an honest and caring appeal made directly to teenagers and young adults in the hope that they might listen to the truth and break free from the deceptive messages that have been promoted by activist organisations such and LGBTYS and TIE. Sadly, Education Scotland, the Care Inspectorate and the Scottish Government are also in this mix of insidious deception of young people. Dr Chrysostom states,

‘…do not step onto this conveyor belt that leads from classrooms to operating theatres..… Around the world, more and more people are recognising the harm of this ideology, and it is my belief that with time, those who promoted and practised these so-called “treatments” (hormones and surgeries) with no clear evidence base will be held accountable for malpractice. I believe, that day is not far off.’

ScotPAG publishes Dr Chrysostom’s letter below in full, in the hope that as many young people as possible can read his letter and understand the truth directly from a medical expert who is only too well aware of the current harms being visited on young people in Scotland and beyond.

An open letter to young adults contemplating deceptive gender surgeries.

Dear young person,

I write to you not as a politician or campaigner, but as a doctor who has served in the NHS for more than 25 years. My only purpose is to warn you against the disastrous and deceptive surgeries being promoted by some plastic surgeons and urologists, both within and outside the NHS.

You are not “born in the wrong body.” You are already perfectly created as male or female. Biology is clear: sex cannot be changed. It is determined at fertilisation, written into the genome of every cell in your body, and evident from the seventh week of development in the womb. No human being has the power to change the sex encoded in 30 trillion cells. When doctors and institutions claim they can “feminise” or “masculinise” you, they are making promises that biology does not allow.

The deception begins early. Many of you first encountered it in school, when school materials suggested that sex was “assigned at birth” and that gender is “fluid.” This is not true. Sex is not assigned—it is a biological reality.

Make no mistake—this has become a business. Healthy young people are turned into lifelong patients, to be dependent on surgeons, psychiatrists, endocrinologists and urologists. Scar tissue, strictures, fistulas, sepsis, sterility, and regret are not rare complications; they are common outcomes. Sterility makes you permanently incapable of having your own children. What has been dressed up as “gender medicine” is an industry built on your confusion and suffering. These treatments, whether hormonal or surgical, carry a significant risk of drastically shortening your lifespan.

Let me be very clear about the surgeries themselves:

  • Vaginoplasty does not create a vagina. It creates a deep surgical wound lined with

skin, incapable of functioning like a natural organ.

  • Phalloplasty does not create a penis. It creates a mound of skin and fat fashioned into

the shape of one, but without the anatomy or physiology that makes a penis what it is.

  • Mastectomy does not give you a “male chest.” It leaves you permanently scarred, with

tissue that can never be restored.

No one with genuine knowledge of anatomy, physiology and genetics can honestly claim that these procedures make you the opposite sex. What you need is not surgery, but psychotherapy and support—to help you accept your biological reality and move forward in life. I am confident that many who undergo these operations will experience regret within five years, if not sooner. But that regret will be permanent because, nothing can restore what has been removed.

Dear young people of this great country, I urge you: do not step onto this conveyor belt that leads from classrooms to operating theatres. Parents are now waking up, asking what their children are being taught, and the tide is beginning to turn. Around the world, more and more people are recognising the harm of this ideology, and it is my belief that with time, those who promoted and practised these so-called “treatments” (hormones and surgeries) with no clear evidence base will be held accountable for malpractice. I believe, that day is not far off.

Thank you for reading this with openness. My hope is simply to protect you from serious harm and to remind you that you are already complete, already precious, and already yourself—without needing to go through these painful interventions and hormones.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Joseph Chrysostom MS (Gen Surg), FRCSEd.

GMC 5199143.
